Harden's 'Top Coffee House' 2016

On 1st September the nominees shortlisted for the Harden’s London Restaurant Awards 2016 were announced. Department of Coffee & Social Affairs was nominated for the ‘Top Coffee House’ award amongst the likes of Monmouth Coffee, Doppio and Tamp. On 12th September we received the news of officially winning the prize for the ‘Top Coffee House’ in London for 2016, as voted by you. The award ceremony took place at the Hippodrome Casino in Leicester Square, where our Sales & Product Development Manager, Sharni Ruming and our Leather Lane Shop Manager,  Jinnie Goundry picked up the award on our behalf.

We are absolutely thrilled to be voted the Top Coffee House in London for 2016. Having been voted the people’s choice is a real honour. From all of us at Department of Coffee and Social Affairs we wanted to thank the people who took the time to vote for us.

Harden’s is the UK’s first original ‘user-generated content’ restaurant review site and guide. Each year for the last quarter century, Harden’s has polled ordinary diners to determine the best and worst of the dining scene in London and the UK. The 2016/17 survey was conducted between April 14th to June 3rd, with nearly 7,500 diners contributing 50,000 individual reviews. Reviews were invited in the categories which form the basis for the London Restaurant Awards.

Some of those reviews from the public were:

They’re serious about their caffeine. Some of the best and smoothest coffee in London. Also offering a collection of delicious cakes.

It would be tempting to say that London has a surplus of coffee houses, but that just makes those brands that stand out all the more striking. The Department of Coffee and Social Affairs succeeded in impressing the reporters in our survey -- which is no mean task! -- with its focus on excellent brews, but also the wit with which it delivers them.- Harden's Co-founder, Peter Harden
