Behind The Scenes At The Roastery Department
Department of Coffee and Social Affairs launched The Roastery Department in November 2015 and we thought it was about time we gave you a behind the scenes look at what has been going on.
Each week we receive Speciality Grade 1 green coffee at the roastery. We have at least 12 different single origin coffees in stock at any given time.
Then Dumo Mathema, our head roaster, gets to work roasting.
Throughout the week Dumo roasts coffee for Department of Coffee and Social Affairs, he is assisted by some of our senior baristas, Andy Bennett, Rick Tipton and Stefano Stella. Once the coffee has been roasted and packed it is collected by our cycle couriers Mat and Ian and distributed across London to our shops.
Each week Dumo also roasts coffee for our Home and Office Coffee Subscription, Sharni heads up the programme and ensures the coffees get to our loyal customers fresh and on time, she even includes a personalised note.
If Dumo isn't roasting for Department of Coffee and Social Affairs or for our coffee subscription service you will find him roasting and training for our wholesale accounts. We are working with some fantastic coffee shops and restaurants in and out of London.
